X GIF downloader

Paste a link to an X post and save its GIF as an MP4. Works for videos too.

Preview it, then save it as an MP4. If the post has a video, you get that too.

Questions, answered

Why is my GIF an MP4?

X turns every GIF into a short, silent MP4 when it's posted, so that's the file it keeps. It's much smaller than a .gif and plays almost anywhere: Slack, Discord, Notion, Keynote, or back on X.

Can I get a .gif file instead?

Any GIF converter can turn the MP4 into a .gif. Expect it to be several times bigger. For chat apps and slides, the MP4 usually works as is.

Where do I find the post link?

On X, tap Share under the post, then Copy link. On the web you can also copy it from the address bar. It looks like x.com/name/status/ followed by a long number.

Can I download videos too?

Yes. Paste a post with a video and you get the highest quality MP4 X offers. If a post has several GIFs or videos, you get all of them.

Why won't some posts load?

It only sees what X shows everyone. Posts from private accounts, deleted posts and age-restricted posts won't load. If X is slow, try again in a minute.

Saving on iPhone or Android

Tap Download MP4. On iPhone the file goes to Downloads in the Files app; open it and tap Share, then Save Video to put it in Photos. On Android it lands in your Downloads folder.

Is it OK to download GIFs from X?

Only download media you have the right to use: your own posts, media with a free license, or with the creator's permission. When you share it, credit the creator.

Do you keep anything?

No. We ask X for the post's media and hand you the links. The file comes straight from X to your device. We don't store the media, and we don't keep a record of what you look up.
