X / Twitter character counter
Paste your post. We count it the way X does, so you know if it fits before you hit post.
How X counts characters
Links always count as 23
X wraps every link in its t.co shortener, so a link counts as 23 characters however long or short it is. Bare domains like example.com count as links too.
Emoji count as 2
Each emoji counts as 2, including skin tones, flags and combined emoji like 👨👩👧. A few plain symbols such as © count as 1.
Chinese, Japanese and Korean count as 2
Each CJK character counts as 2, so a post in those languages fits about 140 characters. Some symbols, such as … • → and €, also count as 2. Accented letters, Cyrillic, Arabic and most other scripts count as 1.
280 for standard accounts, 25,000 with Premium
Standard accounts can post 280 characters. X Premium subscribers can publish long posts of up to 25,000 characters, and readers see a preview with "Show more". No Premium? Split it into a thread. See how to post long tweets and threads.
How accurate is this counter?
It follows X's own counting rules: weighted characters, links as 23 and emoji as 2. Rare edge cases, such as brand-new emoji or unusual link endings, can differ by a character or two.
